Forum: feature_films Subject: FILMS IN QUESTION?

i'm wondering if someone could tell me if these
are legal to download:

under the red robe(1937)
the rise of catherine the great(1934)
the private life of don juan(1934)
THE FOUR FEATHERS(1939)
DANGER ON THE AIR(1938)
AIR DEVILS(1938)
CAPTAIN CALAMITY(1936)
DARK JOURNEY(1937)
SUNDOWN(1942)

I WANT TO BE SURE THE ARE COMPLETELY IN PUBLIC DOMAIN
BEFORE I DO.....

A renewal was found for only one:

THE FOUR FEATHERS, a photoplay in four-
teen reels by London Film Productions.
15Jun39; L9008. London Film Pro-
ductions, Inc. (PWH); 120ct66;
H3 95381.

It may be p.d. if the film lacks a proper copyright notice.

This certainly isn't definitive, but I just looked through my copy of The Four Feathers and couldn't find any copyright for this A. Korda film. But IMDB lists the longest version at 1:29 and mine is 1:50:18. Maybe mine has five feathers.

I just looked at the opening credits; there was no copyright notice to be seen.

Video-Cellar has said Under the Red Robe (1937) is PD, as are The Private life of Don Juan (1934) and Dark Journey. Ditto for The Four Feathers (1939) and Sundown.

The Rise of Catherine the Great is PD and was released by several public domain dvd companies before Criterion chose to restore it
